This “His & Hers” Galley Kitchen in Adams Morgan is a stunning example of blending two opposing and dramatic styles in a traditional row home layout. By maintaining the wall between the kitchen and dining rooms, the design team faced a unique challenge which they solved by repurposing space from the dining area and reconstructing the home’s back porch.
The design concept of contrasting black and white elements adds a sense of drama and sophistication to this kitchen. The “hers” section focuses on white tones and plenty of cabinetry for storage needs. It exudes a timeless elegance and a bright, airy atmosphere, while handpicked granite backsplash and countertops adds flair and personality to the space. In contrast, the rear bar area boasts sleek black accents, creating a bold and masculine feel with reverse black & white granite counters and backsplash. One of the most striking features of the remodel is “his” dream bar, designed to showcase an extensive craft beer collection.
Another added feature, the renovated porch space allowed the homeowners to add a much desired powder room to the main level, furthering this innovative and thoughtful design plan. The contrasting color scheme of the kitchen and bar not only serves as a focal point for the home, but also reflects the individual tastes and eclectic style of the homeowners. By marrying two distinctive styles into one cohesive and dramatic design, the space not only meets the clients’ desires but also preserves the integrity of the classic row home architecture.
