Our Story

Spectrum is a family-owned and award-winning design-build firm serving homeowners in the Washington, DC and Montgomery County area since 2011. As the owner of Spectrum, I [re-]discovered my talent as a carpenter, contractor, and builder over twenty years ago. I left my day job and haven’t looked back since.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our team of master builders, designers, architects, project leaders, superior craftsmen and tradesmen to create transformative remodeling experiences for our clients. As a result, they have hired us again and again for multiple projects of high-quality remodeling and renovations. The care and standards we put into every project is because we love what we do just as much as you love your home. It is our mission to make your home function for your specific needs, and turn it into a space that you’ll love spending time in with your family and friends!

Keith Vaughan

Founder

As founder of Spectrum Design Build, Keith’s standard of excellence and professional integrity infuse every step of the home remodeling process, and specifically Spectrum’s approach to integrated Design + Build as the preferred methodology to complete projects. For more than two decades, he’s helped Clients transform their homes with thoughful design, inovative solutions, collaborative intent, and superior craftsmanship. He’s not only the owner-manager of this award-winning company, but he takes great pride in having built a company of dedicated employees, participating and donating in his community, and wholistically giving back to the builidng and remodeling industry. As example, Keith serves on committees and associations such as the DC CODE TAG Committee for IRC, IEBC, and Energy code adoptions, PRO Mid-Atlantic, MBIA and its carpenter apprenticeship program, and often serves as an expert witness protecting consumers, code compliance, and general building safety and methodology issues.

Jennifer Vaughan

Marketing & Client Relations

As the co-owner of Spectrum Design Build, Jennifer is responsible for the client outreach and marketing of this award-winning company. She assists with building and maintaining our relationships with clients and collaborates with the staff to ensure they’re doing their best work. Her work at Spectrum gives her a unique perspective as a full-time real estate agent with Compass, where she guides her own extensive client-base through buying and selling homes throughout the DC Metro area.

Channelle Cain

Senior Finance Manager & HR

Channelle Cain is a proud Washingtonian with over 15 years of experience in accounting and finance across diverse industries. Known for her authenticity and unwavering professionalism, Channelle consistently brings integrity and insight to every interaction with clients and colleagues. She excels at problem-solving and is committed to delivering effective solutions. When not at work, Channelle channels her creative energy as a licensed nail technician.

Christopher Meckel

Director, Production & Operations

With more than 40 years in residential remodeling, Chris has built his career from vocational school and apprenticeship to carpenter, project manager, and now Director of Production & Operations. Originally from New Jersey, he moved to Maryland for a job opportunity six years ago. What he finds most rewarding is meeting new clients and reconnecting with past ones as they return for new remodeling projects. He’s especially passionate about mentoring team members and helping them grow and thrive within the organization. When he’s not working, you can find him on the golf course or putting his remodeling skills to work on his own home.

Dan Gardner, CPM

Production Leader

Dan is a native Washingtonian, and has more than 20 years of construction and project management experience. Through constant communication and evaluation, he is the liaison between the in-house design team and field production crews. He is also the conduit between clients and the progress of their home project. Dan brings a unique set qualities to the job everyday as he has to see the big picture while keeping a close eye on all the details at the same time for each home remodeling project.

Ethan Santos

Architectural Project Designer

With more than five years of experience in commercial design and a Master’s Degree in Architecture, Ethan brings both technical expertise and creativity to his work. Originally from Germantown, Maryland, and now settled in DC, he enjoys the constant learning that comes from working closely with the Spectrum team and his clients. Ethan is also an accomplished artist who has sold commissioned pieces while also pursuing photography. When not at the office, he enjoys running with his dog and playing tennis.

Samara Martins

Lead Designer, Projects

With nearly 10 years of design experience, Samara specializes in creating distinctive and beautiful kitchen and bathroom spaces. She stays in tune with the latest design trends while bringing her own creative perspective to every project, always prioritizing her clients’ vision and lifestyle. Outside of work, Samara loves cooking, building Lego sets, and exploring the world, she has traveled to more than 20 countries and speaks Portuguese, English, and Spanish fluently.

Karandeep “KJ” Singh

Office & Information Coordinator

Karandeep “KJ” Singh is one of the youngest members of the Spectrum team, yet has a deep understanding of data and network systems management. His IT responsibilities include maintaining our client database, updating our technology, and assisting in daily project tracking. He’s dedicated to seeing every task through from start to finish, and brings a fresh perspective and new ideas to the Spectrum Team.

Mauricio Hernandez

Job Site Captain/Lead Carpenter

Mauricio has over two decades of experience as a highly skilled carpenter, working a majority of that time here at Spectrum Design Build. Over the years, he’s honed his skills as a lead and finish carpenter. As a Jobsite Captain, he’s in charge of scheduling crews, coordinating the construction work and timing of the supplies into the field to ensure the projects are running smoothly.

Julio Nunez

Lead Carpenter

Julio’s hard work and positive attitude makes him a valuable member of the Spectrum team. His carpentry skills include drywall and framing, kitchen cabinetry, flooring, and door installations, allowing him to contribute effectively to various aspects of our projects. With Julio’s dedication and expertise, the team can rely on him to consistently deliver high-quality workmanship.

Gustavo brings five years of professional experience and a true craftsman’s eye to his work as a finish carpenter. Originally from Brazil and now calling Washington, D.C. home, he takes great pride in precision and detail, especially when it comes to trim work. Outside of work, he enjoys running and bodybuilding, always pushing himself to reach new goals.

Rolando Martin

Carpenter/Installer

Rolando joins Spectrum with an extensive background in residential and commercial construction, and is an expert at painting, door and window framing, and finish drywall. His skills and attention to detail in all aspects of carpentry, make him a valued member of the carpentry team and company.
